The Best True Crime Podcasts
In the past six months or so I have been on a real true crime binge, all starting with the Bundy Tapes on Netflix, from there I moved into Criminal Minds and Mindhunter which has eventually led me to the world of true crime podcasts.
Let me just tell you that I have become obsessed. I for the most part I like listening to cases on the more prolific serial killers, like Bundy, Gacy and Kemper, but the smaller less known cases or unknown to me are just as fascinating.
When I first attempted to get into true crime podcasts I was recommended a few that just didn’t really do it for me, either the episodes didn’t hook me or I felt something was missing for me to really get into, but I have found my groove and have a great rotation of podcasts that I think any romance reader, especially romantic suspense lovers, will be hooked on.
In no particular order these are my favorite true crime podcasts.
(These all have new episodes every week)
Killer Queens
Killer Queens is hosted by two sisters who around my age and love making 90s references. They pull most of the cases they talk about from documentaries you might have already watched or from listener requests. I will sit there laughing with them as they make fun of the killers. It’s like having a conversation with them about murderers!
Morbid
This is another female duo and these ladies can paint a vivid picture, infact I had to take a break from true crime podcasts for a while after listening to their recounting of Jefferey Dahmer’s killings. I mean that man was twisted, but the hear them talk about it. Whew! I was almost sick to my stomach. They are well researched, but at the same time balance it out well with humor.
Sinsiterhood
Another female lead duo and from my hometown, of Dallas! I look forward to seeing them live one day. One of the ladies is an attorney so it’s interesting to see her takes on some of the trials that these killers have and how that side of things work. Like with Killer Queens I feel like I’m just hanging out with these ladies, yet it’s a bit more fun because I know the areas they will occasionally discuss.
True Crime All the Time
Surprise! Here’s a true crime podcast not hosted by women. This one is by two men and I have listened to them discuss almost all of the infamous killers. These men are a little more serious than the women and very much give you facts but in a very conversational way. They have a ton of episodes and have covered many if not all of the infamous serial killers.
(One case that goes over multiple episodes)
Up and Vanished
This true crime podcast is more of a documentary, host Payne Lindsay, set out to investigate the cold case of what happened to Tara Grinstead. This case was nuts because while you are listening to the case and hearing the evidence, people in the area actually started to give clues to Payne and the case ends up being solved during the course of the podcast!
Dirty John
If you watch any sort of crime tv there is a good chance that you have heard the story of the con artist and manipulator John Meehan, and if you haven’t… hold on to your seat because this podcast is going to piss you off, but there is happy ending. You can also watch tv miniseries of Dirty John on Netflix!
Doctor Death
What’s so crazy about this case is that it actually took place here in Dallas and I only remember hearing bits and pieces about it on the news. This surgeon killed patients either on purpose or simply because he didn’t know what he was doing. There are so many facets to this case and some of it is shady as hell. You might look at your surgeon a little sideways before you go under the knife after listening to this one.
