I don’t know about you, but I get chaotic when cleaning and tend to jump from room to room and forget what I started working on. Then the house ends up looking worse than when I started and I don’t feel like I have accomplished a single thing!

I created a spring cleaning list that should help any other A.D.D. cleaners like me that can’t seem to get zoned in and work one room at a time. This has a breakdown of rooms and one for the entire house so then you can pick items to clean, such as all of the ceiling fans.

It's time to spring cleaning and this guide and free checklist will have you set for another year of freshness and organization.

Kitchen Spring Cleaning

The kitchen is one of the most satisfying yet irritating rooms to clean for me. You know that the second it’s clean it’s going to be cooked in and messy all over again, but with deep spring cleaning you will be a different type of clean.

For spring cleaning it can be a bit overwhelming, but for me the biggest things are the pantry and refrigerator. I tend to leave foods in the pantry that I think I’ll use again for another recipe but I never actually get to them or they were bought for a recipe I never make.

All the food that’s still in date and never been open I take to my local foodbank. There are so many people struggling so there is no need to just throw out perfectly good food, especially pantry staples.

For the refrigerator i’d get rid or any leftovers and pull out everything, and scrub down all of the shelves and drawers and really get shiny. Organize it and get everything organized for quick use when cleaning.

Those are the biggest tasks, you will also want to clean the cabinets and pantry doors, along with the oven and microwaves.

Bathroom Spring Cleaning

I have a little boy and let me tell you, this kid has the world’s worst aim when it comes to peeing and so the bathroom does get cleaned regularly but like the kitchen here are little nooks you don’t seem to clean on the regular.

For example… your shower curtain. I’ve read online that you can spray the plastic liner down with an all purpose cleaner with bleach and spray it down, but I’ll be honest with you, I don’t do that. I just buy a new curtain once a year. Just a nice, relatively inexpensive one from Walmart.

What I do take the time to scrub down are the tiles and the mildew, if you’re getting the dark gunk around it, use toilet bowl cleaner with bleach and cover it with that and let it sit for a few minutes and then come back with a brush and really scrub it and then rinse it with water and you will be thrilled with these results!

Next up go ahead and go through your makeup and medicine drawers/cabinets. Remember you don’t want to just throw old prescriptions in the trash, dispose of them properly. Check out Busy Wife Busy Life’s post on how to clean make-up brushes, this was a huge help to me!

Bedroom Spring Cleaning

Ahhh… the place you go to relax and nothing is relaxing about laying down in a room that is cluttered and messy. You will feel more anxious and it will be harder to unwind.

You will want to move the stuff that you typically clean around but this time you will actually move it and dust it really well, including the lamps. I always forget to dust my lampshade and ceiling fans!

You might also want to swap out for lighter linens on your bed and vacuum your mattress and spray it down with febreze for a really fresh smell in your room. Put your pillows in the washer, or however the tag says to clean it. Be careful though, because if you have an old pillow you could really ruin it, trust me I know this from personal experience lol.

This is where things get worse before they get better.

Also, the most time consuming process is that closet. Either switch out your fall/winter clothes for spring and summer or just go through and clean out clothes you never wear and like the food in the pantry, I highly recommend donating clothes you don’t wear.

Spring Cleaning your whole House

Once you are finished focusing on the specific rooms, it’s time to focus on the hallways and living areas of the house. You want to do like the other rooms in the house and move stuff around and dust everything, including blinds, lamps curtains, blinds. Remove your books from the shelves and wipe them down along with the shelves.

You may also wish to clean the windows inside and out, I also read somewhere online that you want to work on the windows when the sun isn’t shining directly on them. I’ve also found some Windex wipes and I prefer these to the spray and newspaper.

Go through and scrub down all the doors and walls if you need to, I know how those kids can be with their dirty hands. That’s about all I have for you, make sure you download the checklist for your spring cleaning, because the only thing more satisfying than having a clean house is marking of those boxes!
