What is your favorite part of winter? Did you try to evoke that feeling into your story?
I love outdoor sports in winter. I especially enjoy hiking in the snow and also enjoy skiing (although I’m not great at it), so both of those were elements that I made part of my story.
Does writing as a part of a multi-author series make it easier for you to tell the character’s story or do you feel more constrained by the limitation?
I wouldn’t say it’s easier, but it doesn’t constrain me either. It was fun to brainstorm about the setting with my fellow authors and being able to have another author’s character pop up in my book was so much fun! It’s also fun collaborate on ideas with fellow writers and get their feedback on your story.
Have your parents read your books? Or would that be too awkward for you? I couldn’t imagine my father ever reading a sex scene that I wrote!
My mom has read a few of my books. It was a little awkward. She always refers to sex as “stuff” and says my books would be great without that “stuff” in them. It makes me laugh.
Have you ever gone on a writing retreat? Or do you simply stay in the confines of your own home? Or perhaps you have a she-shed?
Nope, but I would love to some day. I tend to write in our home office, my bedroom, or out on our deck. It really just depends on my mood and the weather. Like right now, it’s sunny out, so I’m thinking maybe I’ll go out and write on the deck later today.
Did you edit anything out of this book that you really loved but it just didn’t work for this story? Can you tell us or are you saving it for a bonus?
Yes. There was a scene about a camp that Ty and Brittany went to as kids. It just didn’t flow well in the plot, so it was cut, but maybe it’ll make its way into some bonus content at some point. Other than that, I think every major scene made its way into the story.
With this series taking place in the winter, did you do anything special to get in the winter mood per se, or did you write the story during the winter?
I wrote the story during the summer and fall. Maybe because it was so hot here in the Washington D.C. area, I felt inspired by the idea of cold weather, even though I am not a cold weather fan at all! Growing up near Lake Erie, it was pretty cold in the winters, so channeling that was not hard to do for me.
