This whole contest was supposed to be easy. I know, I know. Famous last words.
It’s a long story, but I messed up at work. Big time. To earn back the trust of my boss, I promised to save one of our magazines. Yep. That Hot Dad contest you’ve seen advertised all over the place was my idea. And if I’m successful, if I’m able to increase our online readership, then I get a shot at my dream job.
But the one thing I never expected to happen, happened: Contestant number ten, Grayson Malone. Hello, Mr. Difficult. And did I mention sexy as hell?
Unfortunately he knows me. The old me, anyway. And while we might be older now, I remind him of before. Of the woman who broke his heart, who hardened him, and who left him alone to raise the cutest little boy I’ve ever seen.
But I don’t want a relationship. And I definitely don’t fall for single dads with baggage. Even ones with chiseled abs and killer smiles.
But he got to me. They got to me. He and his son and their messy, crazy life. But I got to him too. I see the stolen glances. I feel the walls he built start to crumble. I recognize that there’s an unexpected beauty to the chaos in his life.
And now that the contest is about to end, we’re left to decide whether the last six months were just fun or if what we have is worth risking it all?
I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I was up until after one two nights in a row reading Cockpit. Let me tell you. My heart. You know that feeling like… your heart stutters or flips? I’m not sure how to describe it, but it’s a legit physical thing for me. It happened over and over.
The struggles that Grayson dealt with as a single father could have been annoying, but K Bromberg executed this flawlessly. It made him more endearing to me. I may have been utterly frustrated with him, but his brothers were there to whip him into shape. I felt for him and the issues he was dealing with raising a son with his mother not in the picture. My heart literally broke for both him and his son. I am in the same position but reversed because I’m the mom, but his fears are also my fears. I understood him in such a visceral way.
One of my favorite things about Cockpit was watching Sidney, a woman who was used to being independent and getting everything she wants and transforming into an even stronger woman as she fell for a stubborn man and his son. My heart shattered for her on numerous occasions, she was tested and put through the ringer. I loved her. I have a girl crush on her. The way she held her head high and fought for what she wanted.
I have only him the tip of the iceberg on how I felt reading Cockpit, Bromberg has such a real and authentic writing style, her books always connect with me in such a way that the characters live on in my heart and head long after the book is over.
Meet Grayson’s brothers in Cuffed and Combust!
