Meet The Adults

Claire and Matt are divorced but decide what’s best for their daughter Scarlett is to have a ‘normal’ family Christmas. They can’t agree on whose idea it was, or who said they should bring their new partners. But someone did – and it’s too late to pull the plug.

Claire brings her new boyfriend Patrick, a seemingly eligible Iron-Man-in-Waiting. Matt brings the new love of his life Alex, funny, smart, and extremely patient. Scarlett, their daughter, brings her imaginary friend Posey. He’s a rabbit. Together the five (or six?) of them grit their teeth over Organized Fun activities, drinking a little too much after bed-time, oversharing classified secrets about their pasts and, before you know it, their holiday is a powder keg that ends – where this story starts – with a tearful, frightened, call to the police…

But what happened? They said they’d all be adults about this…

If you loved The Break by Marian Keyes or raved about The Rosie Project – look no further than The Adults.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Adults was unlike any book I’ve ever read and I had so much fun reading it!

The Adults is told from three different points of view, the current partners to a divorced couple, Alex and Patrick, along with Matt and Claire’s daughters point of view. The switching of perspectives was a little difficult for me to follow in the beginning especially with the story being told in 3rd person instead of the first person that I typically read.

While reading we also going different people’s perspectives from around the resort and a common theme was how strange they thought that the ‘family’ vacation was, because who in their right mine would vacation with their exes, right?

Some times while reading I was laughing out loud, other times I was embarrassed for characters and sick to my stomach. I had no idea how thing would play out in the end, but some characters were much more likable than others. The women were definitely more likable than the men. They were both pretty… douchey. In their own ways.

There were times that I had to stop and ask myself, is this what people in real life deal with every day? And I believe that it is. This story might hit really close to home for some people.

If you are looking for a fun and unpredictable holiday read, I highly suggest you check out The Adults today!
