He has a big…smile.
It was the first thing I noticed that day until he stood. His grey sweatpants hung off his hips and I didn’t want to look. I really didn’t.
I’m a feminist.
I don’t believe in objectifying men. I don’t catcall men. I don’t ogle the bodies of men. I don’t view men as objects of my affection rather than complex people with feelings, wants, and needs of their own. I don’t treat men the way society often treats women.
I treat men the way I want to be treated as a woman—with respect!
So, when Carlos ran into me while I was reviewing my interview questions in the park, it surprised me to see my photography classmate out of context. I was also surprised to see as much of him as I did.
It wasn’t just that it caught my eye. It was the fact that it held my attention.
It wasn’t just that it was large. It was the fact that it was visibly large.
It wasn’t just that it was Carlos Richmond. It was the fact that I am Akila Bishara.
And I am not seduced by anything other than intelligent conversation, witty rapport, and meaningful actions.
I am not seduced by a dick print.
I am not.
Seriously, I’m not.

I took a chance on new to me author, Danielle Allen and it paid off in a BIG way! I fell in love with Akila and Carlos! These two are magic and passion and fueled by intellectual and physical lust.

It’s kind of ironic that the cover of Sweatpants Season is what drew me, because the story overall is about objectification, and I was definitely objectifying this cover model. I mean, goodness gracious that is sexy! Sweatpants Season is a slow burning romance, their simmering attraction had me dying for them to kiss, to rip each others clothes off and bang against the wall. The attraction between Carlos and Akila was palpable.

Outside of the chemistry and romance I simply loved how strong, smart and independent Akila is. She is fierce and stood behind her beliefs one hundred percent. Not only that, but she was authentic and her thoughts were true to life. I have the same internal battles with myself that she struggled with internally.

Now, this brings me to the smart, respectful Carlos. This man, is truly the perfect counterpart for Akila because he challenges her, he protects her and you can tell he respects her even when she is obviously frustrating him. (Men should take notes from Carlos.)

Sweatpants Season, was fun and flirty, but was balanced perfectly with hard hitting issues. I laughed, I swooned, I was turned on and I had gut churning fear when I could feel everything coming to a head. This story is a must read if you are looking for a provocative enemies/co-workers to lovers novel with sexually charged banter!
