A deliciously steamy enemies with benefits romance.

Everyone’s impressed, well except one person…
After a blow out in high school, Makenna Halstead and I were happy to never have to cross paths again. Except life has a way of knocking you straight in the teeth with a puck when you least expect it. She hasn’t just returned to my life, she crashed into it like a wrecking ball…into my college kingdom, into my class, and smack dab into the seat next to mine. My new lab partner to be exact.
For years we hated each other… I may be King on the ice, but she is the Ice Queen. She has no problem calling me out, doesn’t back down, and her piercing blue eyes have me picturing more than than just my arms wrapped around her.
Now we’re stuck with each other and there’s no getting around that fact that we have to work together. My hockey career hangs in the balance. Problem? Oh, yeah.
I can’t deny it. I want her. More than I ever thought I could want a woman. I’ve got one semester–only four months–to convince her everything she thought about me was wrong.
Will my queen let me prove to her I’m the King she can’t live without?
Only one way to find out…
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Shameless King is my first novel by Maya Hughes and I wasn’t really sure what to expect diving into a story by a new to me author. I was delivered an enemies to lovers, kind of a second chance sports romance.
The more I read the more I realize that enemies to lovers just probably isn’t my thing. I get frustrated to easily and annoyed with the characters that ‘hate’ each other. I guess the reason why it frustrates me so much is because in my opinion they reason for this hatred is typically a miscommunication or someone is jaded about the other character for an illogical reason.
Once I got past the I hate you part of Shameless King I really enjoyed it! It was fun and flirty and sexy. Lots of sexy time in this one friends. Declan and Mak had a tangible chemistry with a constant push and pull that had me needy. The beginning of their relationship was combustible and everyone say that they were getting off on pushing each others buttons, but the two of them and I really enjoyed that cluelessness between the couple.
The real highlight of Shameless King for me was their friends. We know bits and pieces of other relationships that are building and I can’t wait to learn what all has happened where things will go from here!
