Sometimes I need an escape from the demands, the puck bunnies, and the notoriety that come with being an NHL team captain. I just want to be a normal guy for a few weeks. So when I leave Chicago for some peace and quiet, the last thing I expect is for a gorgeous woman to literally fall into my lap on a flight to Alaska. Even better, she has absolutely no idea who I am.

Lainey is the perfect escape from my life. My plan for seclusion becomes a monthlong sex fest punctuated with domestic bliss. But it ends just as abruptly as it began. When I’m called away on a family emergency, I realize too late that I have no way to contact Lainey.

A year later, a chance encounter throws Lainey and me together again. But I still have a lie hanging over my head, and Lainey’s keeping secrets of her own. With more than lust at stake, the truth may be our game changer.

A Lie for A Lie by Helena Hunting is a must read hockey sports romance with a twist that I for one stood up and cheered for!

I didn’t realize prior to starting A Lie for A Lie that it was a spin-off of the Pucked series, but I swear getting to hang out with the old gang, no matter how sparingly, brought a tear to my eye! Our heroine, Lainey, dealt with anxiety issues and the girls from the aforementioned series helped her in ways that Rook alone never could have.

A Lie for A Lie was kind of split up into two chunks, the past, when Rook and Lainey met, and the present where they reconnect. I was just getting tired of the past point of view when it switched back to the present. So, the pacing was good. And it wasn’t so much that I didn’t enjoy reading about them meeting, it was that I knew that something would happen to drive them apart.

Knowing something like that would happen made me so incredibly antsy that I wanted to skip forward and find what happened, but I was listening on audio, which was free with my kindle unlimited subscriptions.

I want to tell you more about but I think it could be a bit of a spoiler, but let’s just say that it’s my favorite trope. It’s a sexy read filled with laughter and heartache. It’s a little more emotional than the start of of the Pucked series, but less so than Lance’s book.

Just grab it and read it. If you are looking for a sports romance, I’m sure it will hit the spot!
