AMBITION WILL FUEL HIM.
COMPETITION WILL DRIVE HIM.
BUT POWER HAS ITS PRICE.

It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the tenth annual Hunger Games. In the Capital, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to outcharm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute.

The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined — every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute… and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was so fun in a twisted way and fascinating read for me! After reading and listening to other people’s commentary I feel like I’ve read a different book. Granted, I’ll admin that I wasn’t trying to read in depth and the meaning behind things in the story.

I read this sorta like a history book, for example when Katniss was in the Hunger Games the way she was treated leading up to and during the games was more like a celebrity, where in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which takes place during the tenth Hunger Games the tributes from the districts were literally treated like animals.

I really enjoyed seeing a more human side of Snow and learning how he came to be what he was. My heart broke for him at times but then his sneaky, more conniving side would show up, it’s quite amazing to see how much he shaped and changed the games.

I enjoyed this so much that I would love to continue on reading more of his story and more of his rise to power. I am so sad that the story has ended again, but I will be there the day the movie releases and in the meantime I’ll be reading and watching the original books because I enjoy the world of Panem that much!
