I’m back with another interview in the Meet the Men interview series! Today I have my interview with Scott MacKenzie! Not only is Scott Mackenzie an author, but he also written songs in his books that he has recorded! How cool is that??

You can follow Scott on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube!

Meet male romance author, Scott MacKenzie we discuss his writing style, his spirit animal and what he is doing when he isn't writing.

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t wearing your author hat?

I am a musician first. I have a recording studio at home and spend most of my time writing and recording music there. My books center around fictitious bands and I get to write songs for these bands. It’s nice because these books have given a place for my music to live. In fact, I have an album coming out very soon that is comprised of all the songs the bands play in the books

What is the first book to make you cry?

Clifford The Big Red Dog…I was an emotional child.

What would you choose as your mascot/avatar?

A big fuckoff spider. You get to build your own home wherever you want, wait in the corner and have food come to you, plus lame people run away when they see you. It wouldn’t be so bad being a spider.

What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?

I have never written from a female perspective. When I wrote with Karina she did all the chapters in the female perspective and I did the chapters in the male perspective.

How do you select the names of your characters?

For the most part they are my high school pals.

Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

Yes.

How long on average does it take you to write a book?

Tough one. I have only written a couple. I feel like I am a six months kind of guy. I have an idea for a space opera I would like to do one day that will take much longer.

Have you ever participated in Movember?

I have not, but I do grow a mustache sometimes for kicks. The world seems to reject it when I do the mustache thing. Karina (my wife) really hates it. There is prostate cancer in my family, I do donate to the cause. The science just isn’t there yet, early detection is great but I feel like healthy living is probably the best thing.

What are you currently reading?

I know this is the wrong answer, but the truth is I am not a big reader. I can be completely consumed by a book, but it is a rare occurrence. The last book that I truly got into was Revival by Stephen King.

If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be?

You are not trapped – the bus leaves every day.

  1. What a great series! And I urge your readers to watch his ongoing IG story ‘Scott’s Boring Life’ – he’s a riot and his wife’s eye rolls are comically on point.
