I’m back with another interview in the Meet the Men interview series! Today I have my interview with Jason Buie! Jason Buie is the author of the AWFUL: Psychopaths Have Needs Too and you can purchase it on Amazon.

Meet male romance author, Jason Buie we discuss his writing style, his spirit animal and what he is doing when he isn't writing.

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t wearing your author hat?

Watching quirky cinema with those I love. MST3K is a favorite around my abode. I also enjoy cooking and eating food that is terrible for me. Afterward (in a bout of self loathing) I spend my time vigorously working out, doing Tai Chi, jogging while singing terrible 80’s pop on the treadmill at the gym loudly and badly enough that  it elicits stares of disgust, disbelief, and sympathy… I also enjoy Combat Sports.

What is the first book to make you cry?

Bridge to Terabithia…

What would you choose as your mascot/avatar?

An Otter… on MDMA, dual wielding chainsaws.

What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?

Believability. Luckily enough I have a large group of female friends I can lean on for a differentiating perspective.

How do you select the names of your characters?

The main character in my book “Awful” doesn’t have a name… but most of the names I’ve chosen in my writing comes from people I’ve met in real life. I’m guilty of using the names of people I don’t like as villains and buffoons. So it would be wise to avoid my ire… or like many other authors, such as the stylised Chaucer… I will eviscerate you in prose and/or kill you literally!

Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

Often… but they are quite obscure. If you find them you are truly special.

How long on average does it take you to write a book?

My last one took me seven years. I started writing as an outlet for anger and darkness… then I became happy, and the tone was too difficult to continue… I had to return to darkness to finish it, and it took time to find it.

Have you ever participated in Movember?

Is that like No Shave November?

What are you currently reading?

The 75th Ranger Regiment Trauma Management Team (Tactical) Ranger Medic Handbook

If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be?

Don’t marry someone that you just met 3 weeks ago… you’re going to have a bad time.

Share with your friends!
