What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t wearing your author hat?
I’m actually quite a large gaming nerd and movie buff, so when not writing or taking photos of half-naked men for portfolio and book cover work, you’ll find me with a joystick in hand.
What is the first book to make you cry?
That’s a tough one. Most likely portions of “The Road”.
What would you choose as your mascot/avatar?
While I love dogs, I think my spirit animal would be an otter. The cutest otter ever.
What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
Getting into the character’s heads for sure. For the longest I was worried about the right “voice” to use. However, I’m a firm believer that everyone is individual and so their voices distinct. Can there be a tom-boyish cheerleader? I think so, if the author can get into the headspace and the character speaks to them in turn.
Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?
I plant Easter eggs in all my books … I think people that know would be able to find them but there are some, from character names to places to actual events that are sure to make them go hmmm.
How long on average does it take you to write a book?
On average about a month. But I wrote my latest release – The Secret Life of Cooper Bennett I wrote in two weeks and it’s my longest book to date.
Have you ever participated in Movember?
No, as I can’t grow much of a beard thanks to the Asian genes. Lol
What are you currently reading?
At the moment I’m working on my last story for the year, so not reading. But after that I have a year of new releases to catch up on.
If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be?
Stop giving up and just press forward. Small steps are steps forward regardless of their size.
