“My guardian angel is a drunk.”

Evelyn Casey’s life is at a standstill. She’s in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It’s absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.

And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he’s a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he’s brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he’s brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as —-. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.

For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.

Yes, God as in God.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

In order to read and enjoy Lucian Divine I recommend being able to suspend your religious beliefs. Renee says “I wrote every single word with the sense of humor that God gave me. This book is not about God or angels. This book is about faith, love and the unknown, and not taking ourselves so damn seriously all the time.”

Faith, love and the unknown, is exactly what you get with Lucian Divine!

The faith Lucian and Evey have in each other is outstanding! They believe that as long as they love each other enough that anything is possible, they believe so much in each and the goodness and the protectiveness that nothing could harm them. It was truly beautiful.

The love oh my goodness! I can’t even begin to explain how palpable their love for each other was, it was extraordinary, heavenly even. Their love and passion, that they would go against everything they had been taught to be with each other.

“You are everything to me. You’re the dream, the air, the reason, the cause of my whole existence.”

The unknown, and this right here is the cause for the 4 stars instead of 5. I finished Lucian Divine and so much still felt left unknown to me. Maybe I am supposed to fill in the blanks myself, but I am the type of reader that wants everything spelled out. I don’t want to read between the lines, because I want to know the authors opinion how she see’s it ending and not how I interpret the ending or the blank spots that are there me to fill in.

I laughed, I mean come one.. your guardian angel is a drunk. I cried, my heart was ripped open for these two and I really wanted them to have everything they wanted, they deserved for the amount of love they had.

“And then I realized, that is love. That is life. Brutal and beautiful all in the same.”
