HEA Novel Thoughts: What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t wearing your author hat?
Leigh Lennon: My favorite things: hanging out with the little ones who call me mom and the man I call Hubs. We love movies, we love the beach, and we can’t wait until summer to get out on the boat to explore the beaches we love so much! We are also avid super hero fans, watching most of the television shows and movies! On a personal level, I love to get my nails done or cuddle up on the couch with a good book!
HEA: What is the most recent book to make you cry?
Leigh: Aly Martinez’s—The Darkest Sunrise Duet. Want a good cry—this is the book for you! I can’t recommend it enough! This story is laced with such deep emotion, you’ll be carrying it around with you, in a good way, for days and most possibly months!
HEA: What would you choose as your mascot/avatar? Why?
Leigh: I’ve always had this connection with Giraffes—because they are uniquely beautiful like most things in this world.
HEA: What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
Leigh: Writing a character of the opposite sex does challenge me, as a writer. I find that perspective from the male view is hard! I recently had a scene I wrote that took place in a men’s restroom and I had to get my hubs expertise, because I couldn’t imagine they would talk up a storm about the pretty purse someone has or the boots another may like—as we do in the women’s restroom. LOL.
HEA: Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?
Leigh: I don’t hide secrets in my books, but I do add things that are part of me. I’m an open book, but there maybe only a few that get them, because those few know me. As a matter of fact, in Like Father Like Son, I have a reference to something that is said a lot in our family and unless you are around us, you wouldn’t know it’s from my life.
HEA: How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Leigh: Let’s see? How long it takes to write a book depends on what’s going on in my life. From start to finish, from when I begin to write to when I publish is around four months. However, I write on other books while my current books are with my beta readers, editors and proofers.
HEA: If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be?
Leigh: I would tell myself to start my writing career earlier. I’ve always wanted to be an author and I started writing at a young age but life got in the way and one day, I tired of writing these stories in my head (I started doing this as an adult-though I wrote stories down as a kid). So in a very bad time of my life, I decided I was going to do just that.
HEA: Do you have any tips or hacks that help you stay organized in life, writing or social media?
Leigh: This is one skill I don’t naturally have, so this would be a no. LOL!
HEA: Do you relate more to one of your characters than the others?
Leigh: Certainly, it depends on the past of each character but everyone (besides the jerks I write about) holds a piece of my heart. Julia, in The Last Breath was someone I related to, a lot due to personal struggles. Liz in Color Blind was another person I loved writing because her story was modeled a little after my own, in a way. But Emma, in Unwanted, was the one I related to the most. It was a book with a mother’s struggle with post-partum and although mine was not as severe as Emma from the book, I understood her most than anyone I’ve ever written.
HEA: If a reader discovers your books today, where would you recommend they start reading?
Leigh: I’d suggest they would start with Color Blind, a very emotionally charged book I wrote from deep down in my heart. I’d also suggest Unwanted and Must Love Coffee. All three books encompass my writing style but all three are also very different.

Turning the corner from the hallway to the kitchen, my towel is draped over my neck, ready for my workout downstairs. I stop in my tracks as my eyes fixate on Bianca, bending over grabbing something from my lower cabinets in the shortest of cotton shorts I’ve ever been witness to. Turning around, her shirt is just as revealing, her ample tits almost spilling out of her tank top. She must not see me while she’s ravaging through my pantry. Normally, there are few fixings in my house but it had just been me. With the impending arrival of my new roommate, I’ve stocked up on all my grocery needs throughout the week, buying essential pantry items Google has explained I had to have in my house at all times.
Yesterday, I went to three different grocery stores finding more elements that website swore is necessary for the most basic of meals. Who knew there’s a website for bachelors suddenly wanting to cook? I have a feeling most of the visitors to this particular website do it for the same reason I have—to impress a girl.
Pushing the pantry door shut, I’m in front of Bianca. “Fuck, Mick, you scared the ever-loving unicorn poop out of me.”
‘Must Love Forever’ by Leigh Lennon
I don’t process her words right away but as they sink in, I hold onto my countertop, almost doubling over in hysterics. “Unicorn poop? Wow, Bia, that’s a new one.” The years with Trent have made her prim and proper words more like mine.
Her eyes move to my neck and the towel. “Have you taken a shower?”
Everything about Bianca makes me smile, and I wonder if I’ll have this permanent Joker-like smirk on my face with her around. “You’re too cute, Bia.” I’m staring at her because I don’t remember a time I’ve ever wanted to kiss her like I do now. But really, this is a lie. Since my senior year, every time Bia and I have been in arm’s reach, the urgency to take her in my arms has been high. But now it’s elevated, and I back away to give my body and the member governing my body a chance to think.
“Actually, smartass, I’m heading downstairs to the gym.” I stroll to my door but twist around when my hand reaches for the doorknob. “You’re more than welcome to join me,” I offer, and her frown is everything I remember of Bia when she’s irritated.
“Oh, yeah, I think you know me well enough anyway. One of us needs to be here to cook for your exhausted ass when you get home.” I love the idea of walking into Bianca’s wonderful cooking after a long and hard workout. It’s what I’m in need of, maybe I can sweat out my desires for Bia while I’m there. I highly doubt it.
