Author Kim Bailey stops by for a quick chat with HEA Novel Thoughts ahead of her latest release, Love on the Rocks!

What is your favorite part of winter? Did you try to evoke that feeling into your story?

Cozy sweaters, hot chocolate, and holiday celebrations … it’s funny how I associate the coldest part of the year with so many warm feelings. Throughout my story, not only do we get glimpses of these things, but a sense of family and close-knit friendships. Those bonds and the special moments they share in the season really bring that home for me.

Does writing as a part of a multi-author series make it easier for you to tell the character’s story or do you feel more constrained by the limitation?

I never felt constrained in my writing. If anything, it was a bit of an adventure. Collaborating to create this unique world where all of our characters get to come together to play … how cool is that? Plus, my characters always have a mind of their own & do what they want, so I’m kind of used to living in someone else’s world while I’m writing.

Have your parents read your books? Or would that be too awkward for you? I couldn’t imagine my father ever reading a sex scene that I wrote!

Unfortunately, my parents aren’t able to read my books, and while I’d like to think my mom would’ve loved to read my stories, I know she’d have been mortified by the sex scenes. But I blame my love of romance novels on her since she introduced me to Danielle Steel when I was fourteen.

Have you ever gone on a writing retreat? Or do you simply stay in the confines of your own home? Or perhaps you have a she-shed?

I’m a homebody. But there are days (sometimes weeks) when I wish I had access to a private island. With a cabana boy to bring me drinks. And my best writing pal to keep my company.

Did you edit anything out of this book that you really loved but it just didn’t work for this story? Can you tell us or are you saving it for a bonus?

There’s a fair bit of story that never made it onto the page and will forever live in my head (I kind of like it that way, so prefer not to share). But there is a bonus epilogue available for this book, and the link for that is included, so I won’t spoil it.

With this series taking place in the winter, did you do anything special to get in the winter mood per se, or did you write the story during the winter?

I wrote this book in the summer, so I turned up my air conditioning, cuddled up in my favorite sweaters, and made a Pinterest board for inspiration
