I am delighted to have had Elle Kennedy stop by for an interview and chat about her release of The Chase! I simply adored this roommates to lovers story, I was hooked from the beginning and I really enjoyed getting to hang out with the rest of the gang from the Off-Campus Series that Elle Kennedy previously published!
Hi Elle, thank you for joining me! I can’t wait for the release of The Chase!
The Chase is a spin off of the Off-Campus series, how did you make the decision to create a new series instead of keeping this story in the Off-Campus series?
I always intended for the Off-Campus series to be four books for four roommates, so once they each had their HEAs, I felt like it was time to say goodbye– especially considering they all graduated. With that said, I realized while writing The Goal that I wasn’t done with the Briar universe, and that some of the younger players deserved their time to shine. I figured, new characters, new series name ☺
This story has multiple tropes, including brother’s best friend and roommates. Do you have a favorite trope to write?
I’m a big fan of enemies-to-lovers, mostly because I like writing super sexy arguments that lead to super sexy sex!
You wrote The Chase by yourself, but you co-write with multiple authors, is it difficult transition to go and forth between?
Yes and no. Both have their own advantages. When you write with someone else, you always have someone to bounce ideas off when you get stuck. When you write by yourself, you can work at your own pace and have the final say in how a story goes. I enjoy both processes.
If there is one thing that you could tell readers prior to reading The Chase what would that be?
That both these characters have a lot of personality! Seriously, you get to see a side of Colin Fitzgerald that wasn’t very evident in the Off-Campus series. Summer brings out a whole new side of him. Also, although The Chase can totally be read as a standalone, it’s also fun to go back and read the Off-Campus series so you can see how Fitzy and Summer developed to this point.
Before we leave, I have a fun question for you.
What would you say is the most Canadian thing about you?
I am always apologizing. Seriously, the stereotype about Canadians being super polite? It’s true. Even if someone bumps into me, I’m the one saying sorry. The other day I apologized for saying sorry too much in one conversation!!
Thank you so much for joining me and I can’t wait to read The Chase!
Thank you for having me!
