I was lucky enough to get the chance to see an early screening of Forever My Girl!! I am just so thrilled for Heidi McLaughlin. I mean can you even imagine, the words you wrote being turned into a movie for the BIG SCREEN?
I had the opportunity to interview Heidi about the getting her movie deal. Below the interview I will embed the soundtrack from Forever My Girl. If you love country music you are going to love this album!
Pick up your copy of the book to find out where Forever My Girl all started!
Hi Heidi, thank you for taking the time to chat with me. I was lucky enough to be invited to the Dallas screening and I met Alex and he was simply adorable. The movie was fantastic and I can’t wait for everyone to watch it and gush with me.
What was your initial reaction to being approached to have Forever My Girl turned into a movie?
At first, I though it was a joke. Truthfully, I hadn’t heard of LD Entertainment before so I did what anyone would do and Googled them only to find out I had seen a few of their movies. I sent to my agent at ICM who thankfully has a stellar film division.
How hands on were you able to be during the casting and filming?
As much as I wish I could take credit for something there – I can’t. Being a first time book to movie author, I didn’t negotiate for very many things.
Was it a struggle to see your book baby changed to fit the big screen?
HUGE!!! To this day, I still second guess everything.
Has having your book turned into a film changed any of your processes or the way you approach writing your new novels?
It hasn’t. When I wrote Forever My Girl I wanted everyone to feel like they knew Liam and Josie, like they could be neighbors or classmates. I continue to write this way.
Is there anything you would like to say to your readers prior to them seeing the movie?
You’ll fall in love with Billie! And to add, as an author, seeing your character grow from the pages to the screen is an amazing feeling, and that’s how I feel about Liam. In the books we have him and Noah with their football, but on screen Liam gets a chance to explore his music with his child.
What was it like to have a cameo in the movie? Was it surreal?
It was completely unexpected, but one of the executive producers really pushed me to do it, saying it’s fun. I had no idea what to expect. It was hot, hot, HOT when we were filming, but so worth it! I think one of the best parts was talking to some of the extras and telling them I’m the writer of the novel.
Thank you for having me!
