For Maddie and Jack, attending their high school reunion turned into a reservation mix up and an unexpected stay in a cozy cabin, together. Can enemies turn into lovers over the course of a week? Find out in this must-read enemies to lovers, forced proximity romance from Moni Boyce. The Holiday Springs Resort series is here and STUCK WITH YOU is now live!
Hello! My name is Moni Boyce. I write steamy, interracial contemporary and paranormal romance. I’m a TV/film junkie and an avid world traveler. Excited for everyone to read Maddie and Jack’s story in Stuck With You.
What is your favorite part of winter? Did you try to evoke that feeling into your story?
My favorite part of winter is Christmas and the holiday season. The minute Thanksgiving is over and all the build up leading to Christmas is so fun: Christmas carols, shopping for gifts, Christmas parties, spending time with family and friends, decorating the tree, building gingerbread houses, the spirit of giving that becomes infectious. I get into all of that.
My story takes place in February, so it’s the end of winter, but still really cold. Maddie and Jack do a lot of outdoorsy activities. Winter can be pretty romantic. I wanted them to do things that would create the need to warm each other up.
Does writing as a part of a multi-author series make it easier for you to tell the character’s story or do you feel more constrained by the limitation?
Writing in a multi-author series doesn’t make me feel constrained. This is my second multi-author series this year. Next year, I’m writing in 3-4 multi-author series and 5 shared worlds. I really enjoy it. Being able to brainstorm together, and build a world with other authors is a lot of fun, especially for someone like me that’s extroverted. Writing can be so solitary, so I enjoy writing in these worlds because I get to interact with other authors regularly.
Have your parents read your books? Or would that be too awkward for you? I couldn’t imagine my father ever reading a sex scene that I wrote!
My parents and sisters are extremely supportive. They tell everyone they know I’m an author. Plus, they buy all of my books in paperback. The only one in my family that’s read them is my twin sister… I take that back. My grandmother has actually been reading my books, lol. At first, I was mortified when she called me up and said she was reading them. I expected a lecture, but she finished my first book, Redemption of the
Heart and said how much she loved it. It’s still slightly awkward knowing she’s reading them. I think it would be even more awkward if my father read them, lol.
Have you ever gone on a writing retreat? Or do you simply stay in the confines of your own home? Or perhaps you have a she-shed?
Last year, I rented an Airbnb during a 3 day weekend. I bought groceries and created a menu for those 3 days, went dark on social media and turned off my phone. I holed up and just wrote. It was amazing. I easily knocked out 8K words each day. I would love to do that again. I’d been planning to rent an Airbnb with some other writers and do that this year, but the pandemic happened. I’m hoping to do it next year. I think writing retreats can be very beneficial. At home, on a normal writing day, I have a writing space in my bedroom. My writing area is covered in post-it notes, notes scribbled on index cards, lol. I call it organized chaos.
Did you edit anything out of this book that you really loved but it just didn’t work for this story? Can you tell us or are you saving it for a bonus?
There aren’t any scenes that I edited out of this story. I do like to create elaborate backstories for my characters, which obviously doesn’t all make it onto the page. Maddie and Jack share a deep, lush history with each other, because they grew up together and dated those four years of high school. There are a lot of memories they share. I may create some bonus stories out of those shared memories, such as prom night and some of the other high school memories I allude to. That would be fun for readers to see what a teenage Jack and Maddie were like.
With this series taking place in the winter, did you do anything special to get in the winter mood per se, or did you write the story during the winter?
I wrote this story over the summer. I think what helped to get me in the mood of writing a romance that takes place over the winter was looking at pictures of locations that were covered in snow. I also read a lot of descriptions of snowy weather and tried to think about how the characters would feel or interact in these environments. I tried to be conscious of it being cold, so when I wrote scenes you would know that it’s winter, and not mistake it for any other time of year. The season became a secondary character.
About Stuck with You
Can enemies turn into lovers over the course of a week?
Maddie
When I decided to attend my high school reunion, I knew I’d run the risk of running into Jack Carter. Mr. Big Time Country Music Star. The same guy that broke my heart in high school. What I didn’t expect was that the resort would mess up our reservations, and we’d end up roommates.
Now I’m stuck sharing a cabin with him for the next week, and I don’t know whether I want to kill him or kiss him.
Jack
What are the odds I would end up sharing a cabin with my ex-high school sweetheart, Maddie Grace? The woman was a sweet tomboy back then, now she’s a knockout, uptight lawyer, who loves to argue. Even though we fight like cats and dogs, I’m feeling that familiar old spark and the more time I spend with her, the more I’m beginning to think letting her go was my biggest mistake.
Thanks to a little mix-up at the resort, I’ve now got a week to prove to her that we belong together and you can bet I’m going to give it my best shot.
