K. Bromberg might be best known for her Driven Series, which has been adapted through on demand platform, Passionflix and now available to stream on Amazon! Currently Bromberg is promoting her latest release, Faking It.  If you have the Romance Package on Audible then you’ve had the chance to listen to Faking It come alive already, if you haven’t listened then get ready because this January it will be hitting kindles everywhere!

Ahead of the books release on January 8th, I had a chance to talk with Bromberg. Make sure you check out my review.

K. Bromberg takes your behind the scenes of Faking It, from the meet cute to the Australian accent. Find out her inspiration.

HEA Novel Thoughts: Faking It is light hearted and full of laughs.  After your last three releases being extremely emotional, was it cathartic to write?

Kristy: Writing lighter books is actually harder for me. I’m always second-guessing if the plot is ‘enough’ to hold readers’ attention . . . but I needed lighter. The I had just finished writing the Everyday Heroes standalones (Cuffed, Combust, and Worth the Risk) and while those are all contemporary romances, they definitely have some teeth when it comes to being emotional. With Faking It, it started out light at first, then went way too serious. After struggling with it for a bit, I trashed it and started all over again. I fell in love with Zane and Harlow’s story, their laughs, and their sweetness. It was definitely what I needed to write at the time.

HEA Novel Thoughts: Zane is an Aussie, have you always wanted to write an Australian character or did the fact that the story was first being released on Audible go into deciding that he was would be Australian?

Kristy: It’s funny, in my head all my characters have distinct voices or lilts or drawls to them but I don’t always write that down. It just is. But since I was doing an Audible First book, they gave me a few ‘things’ that sell well with listeners of audio books and one of them was a man with an accent. There were way too many British heroes being done (as if there can be too many of those – swoon), so I thought maybe we could try an Australian accent . . . and when I listened to the narrator (Rupert Channing) he was absolutely perfect as Zane.

HEA Novel Thoughts: Rom-Coms are making a resurgence in film, do you think that will affect your writing or the romance trends in 2019?

Kristy:  I think Rom-Com always has a spot in romance. People like to escape their everyday with reading . . . and they like the story to make them feel good. Naturally, a Rom-Com helps with that. I’m really not sure where the market will trend this year. If I dare to guess, I’m sure it will go the exact opposite, so I’ll keep mum on that, lol.

HEA Novel Thoughts: What inspired Faking It?

Kristy: Originally I had their story be one of self-healing after a #metoo movement type of incident . . . but no matter how many times I started and restarted it, I wasn’t feeling it. Then one night, my twelve year old daughter made an off the cuff comment about wouldn’t it be funny if the hero mistook the woman as a dog walker?  She was totally joking . . . but the more I thought about her comment, the more Zane and Harlow’s story started to unfold for me.

HEA Novel Thoughts: Have you set any goals for yourself in 2019?

Kristy: I want to write something different. What? I don’t know . . . but I have Faking It coming out and then I have 2 more books almost done (Resist and Reveal) that will come out spring and fall . . . so I want to take a bit of time to write something out of my comfort zone. 2018 was difficult for me creatively, so I feel the need to cleanse my palette with something different before diving back in and writing some more of the stories I have in my head.

HEA Novel Thoughts: While we are talking about goals, is there one huge goal that you are dying to reach?

Kristy: You know, I never expected to reach the things I have achieved in this business. I wrote Driven on a dare to myself so to be writing five years later is still surreal. There are still a lot of goals I have for my career, but ones that only matter to me. So long as I can put out books that readers enjoy, then I’ll be content.

HEA Novel Thoughts: Being a romance author as long as you have and in order to maintain relevance and success you have to adapt.  What have been some of the biggest obstacles you’ve had to overcome since starting your journey?

Kristy: To write faster. I’m joking, but it’s true. The pace to release a new book so that you stay relevant as an author and not lose visibility is mind-blowing.

HEA Novel Thoughts: I’m constantly seeing on social media that being an author isn’t glamourous, but has there ever been a time where you got dressed up and went all out for an event or otherwise and you thought man, this is the life?

Kristy: I actually think ‘this is the life’ every day. The hours are crazy and the stress is smothering . . . but I can count on one hand the number of people I know who love their job. Not only do I get to be with my kids, but I get to write my deepest thoughts into a character. Those thoughts are then read by people who can relate to them and love the character because of them. It’s an incredibly fulfilling feeling.

There was one time when my French publisher sent me to a signing in the French Riviera . . . we weren’t dressed up all that fancy, but Colleen Hoover and I were standing on the back of this ferry boat that was taking us to our hotel for the weekend. We both looked at each other, both a little teary-eyed, and were like . . . how is this our life? I think that moment stands out in my mind as an incredible one.

Thank you to K. Bromberg for taking the time out of her schedule and answering my questions, also a shout out to Social Butterfly PR for arranging this for us.
