Are you ready for Brittainy Cherry’s interview? I just adore her!!  Brittainy Cherry is well known for her heart wrenching stories and today we get to dive a little bit deeper with her.

Romance author, Brittainy Cherry, stops by HEA Novel Thoughts for an exclusive interview where discuss her writing and thoughts on Black History Month.

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t wearing your author hat?
I love to explore my city and find new things to try! Recently I’ve done paint night classes and pottery classes. I think it’s so fun to step out of your norm and try something new.

What is the most recent book to make you cry?
Oh geez, that’s a hard one! I haven’t read many sad books lately, so I’d have to think far back on this one!

What would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal? Why?
I’m going to go with a puppy, because they are so easily excited by the smallest things (just like me!)

What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
To make my guys not sound too feminine. Men and women don’t think in the same fashion or talk in the same fashion so it’s important to not make my guys too ‘soft’ in a way.

How do you select the names of your characters?
I sometimes ask my readers for input, other times I research the meaning of certain names and then type them to my characters.

Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?
There’s a few inside jokes that only a few loved ones might get. I would tell you what they are, but then they wouldn’t be a secret haha

How long on average does it take you to write a book?
About 2-4 months.

What does Black History Month Mean to you?
It means everything to me. I’ve never been more proud of the skin I’m in, and it’s a beautiful thing to see so many others embracing their queen and king status. Black is beautiful, and I’m blessed to learn the history of what so many went through for me and my loved ones. Every month is black history month to me, and every month I’m so thankful for those of the past who made a way for our future.

What are you currently reading?
I can’t read when I write! But once I finish I’m diving into Then There Was You by Claire Contreras!

If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be?
Be easy on yourself and others. We’re all just figuring out our personal journeys day in and day out.

Do you have any tips or hacks that help you stay organized in life, writing or social media?
Yes, I unplug from social media, and get out to live life more and more. I find out that unplugging from the internet makes my writing stronger. I find that having a nice balance in life in your work, social life, and emotional health is the key to happiness.

Do you relate more to one of your characters than the others?
I relate to Lucy from The Gravity of Us. She’s such a free spirit and has such a bright outlook on the world. I like to think I’m the same way.

I don’t know about you but I loved the unplugging part, that’s probably where I really struggle!!  If you loved Brittainy Cherry’s interview please share it with your friends!
