Go Dress Shopping with Me!
A few weeks ago I went dress shopping and had the best time with my mom, stepmom and two of my best friends Nicole and Amy! It was honestly quite the adventure just getting to the store and I was scared that my appointment was going to be cancelled because just days before my appointment Texas decided that it was a good time to have a winter storm and spew ice all over the ground! When I was walking up to the store, The Blushing Bride Boutique, there was still some ice on the ground and I almost busted my butt getting into the store lol.
There were so many pictures that I wish I would have taken while I was at the boutique but to be honest I was much more in the moment and there was a flurry of lace and tulle and I spent the majority of the time changing and didn’t really have a chance to take some that I wanted too.
Before we get into the dresses, I wanted to tell you about how I found this cute little boutique. I knew that I didn’t want to go to David’s Bridal because I wanted the experience from a smaller shop and then I wanted to find something that fancy but not overly so, so I was initially love struck by the appearance of Blushing Bride and then when I saw online that the have plus size dresses available I knew it was the place for me, that and the fact that I pinned a ton of their dresses.
My wedding dress consultant was fabulous, the first things she wanted to know were what I was looking for in a dress, and my main points were wanting my figure and butt look amazing, because Tim loves my butt as much as I do so I really wanted it to look great in the dress and I wanted something a bit more modest. I’m a busty woman and I really didn’t want my boobs in everyone’s face because my son would be freaked out about and my Granny would harass me until the end of time. But it wasn’t only for others that I wanted something modest, I’m just not comfortable if I feel like my boob will slip out at a moments notice.
She then asked us about budget which I deferred to my mom’s for and then we set out to a room full of dresses for me to try on. We found eight dress that I liked and moved into the big spacious dressing room where she asked me get undressed and put on a nice silk robe that they provide for each bride to wear.
The first dress I tried on was not one that I originally thought I would love because I didn’t want to pick the first dress that I tried on lol.
So, I didn’t hate this dress but if I were to lean over I felt like there would be a definite nip slip and it was crazy heavy. My consultant did say that the seamstress would be able to work some magic on the dress to give me a big more coverage, but I wanted to keep going trying on dresses. When I took this one off I instantly realized how heavy was and felt a literal weight lift.
This dress was a definite front runner! I loved the fit a the sleeves goodness gracious how I loved these sleeves and the area below my best that was a bit see-through that detail was everything! I was again concerned about my boobs but again with the input of my consultant I was definitely keeping this one in my top selection.
Remember when I mentioned that I wanted my butt to look amazing? This was dress I felt like it did exactly that BUT this dress was incredibly difficult to walk in so even though I was really loving this dress I wasn’t sure if I would keep it at the top for long but my goodness it is a gorgeous dress!
The night before wedding dress shopping, I had a dream that I found the dress I loved so much that I walked out of the store with it on because I was that in love. Well this dress was the dress from my dream! I couldn’t believe that I dreamed a real dress and it was so soft and silky and I couldn’t get over how adorable the back detailing was! It was simple and elegant!
I had to try on another cap sleeved dress to see if I felt the same and and unfortunately I struggled with both of these dress to life my arms, so I needed to decide if I would be ‘raising the roof’ on my wedding day or not because these are both stunning. The one thing I remembered most about this dress was that it was so tight I could hardly breath and by the time we got back to the dressing room I was afraid I was going to pass right out!
At this point we have a pretty good idea of what I’m loving and what I’m not, so we go for a hail mary and find one in blush with sleeves and that’s fitted on the butt.
I’m not going to lie, this was probably one of my least favorites, I didn’t like how it made my back fat kind of poke out of the back and I realize that with alterations that probably could have been changed but I just wasn’t really feeling it. I was about to back and try on one of the dresses that I loved but on my way back there I saw another bride trying a dress and I had to try on the same one that she did.
This was the final dress that I tried on and then I went back and tried on a a couple others that I loved and then I made my decision! I said yes to the dress and I couldn’t be happier! I won’t be revealing which dress I chose here. Go to Instagram and comment on my story and tell me which one you think I chose!
