Sariah Wilson is releasing The Seat Filler this April and Roommaid this October, and before the she kicks off this year releases, she has stopped by HEA Novel Thoughts for a quicker interview!
HEA Novel Thoughts: What would you choose as your mascot/avatar/? Why?
Sariah Wilson: I should probably choose something super cool, but my favorite animal has always been a bunny. I don’t know that it has anything to do with my personality or would be helpful in any way, but its cuteness would make me happy to have it around.
HEA: What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
SW: I write sweet romance. So the most difficult thing for me in writing male characters is trying to keep their internal thoughts at that sweet level when they’re with a woman that they are very attracted to.
HEA: Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?
SW: I am doing it more as time goes on. I have inside jokes with my reader group on Facebook and I’ll put in all kinds of Easter eggs for them. I also love sneaking in references to other books and characters that I’ve written.
HEA: How long on average does it take you to write a book?
SW: It takes me just under a month. I’ve written an entire novel in as little as 17 days. I basically do nothing the entire day except write, and typically go to a hotel the weekend before my book is due to finish it up. It would probably be better for me to spend more time working on it, but my brain knows I can write a book in a month and I’m a huge procrastinator, so…
HEA: If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be?
SW: Be patient. Things will work out. Everything’s going to be okay.
HEA: Do you have any tips or hacks that help you stay organized in life, writing or social media?
SW: No, but I have an excessive amount of tips on how to stay completely disorganized.
HEA: If a reader discovers your books today, where would you recommend they start reading?
SW: It would depend on what kind of books they enjoy. Like royal stories? Try ROYAL DATE. Big football fan? You might enjoy THE FRIEND ZONE. If you like celebrities dating regular people, you can check out #STARSTRUCK. And, of course, be sure to get my newest book, THE SEAT FILLER, when it comes out!
The movie star and the dog groomer are one kiss away from the perfect love story. That’s the hiccup in a warm and witty romance by the bestselling author of Roommaid.
The meet-cute award goes to dog groomer Juliet Nolan. It’s one of Hollywood’s biggest nights when she volunteers as a seat filler and winds up next to movie heartthrob Noah freaking Douglas. Tongue tied and toes curling in her pink Converse, she pretends that she doesn’t have a clue who he is. It’s the only way to keep from swooning.
She’s pretty and unpretentious, loves his dog, and is not a worshipping fan. No way Noah’s giving up on her, even if his affectionate pursuit comes with a bump: Juliet has a pathological fear of kissing and the disappointments that follow. What odds does romance have without that momentous, stupendous, once-in-a-lifetime first smooch? Patient, empathetic, and carrying personal burdens of his own, Noah suggests a remedy: they rehearse.
The lessons begin. The guards come down. But there’s another hitch they weren’t betting on. As for that cue-the-orchestra-and-roll-credits happy ending? It might take more than practice to make it perfect.
