A sexy standalone novel from New York Times and international bestselling author Elle Kennedy. THE RISK takes you back to the world of hot hockey players, feisty heroines, bro banter, and steamy scenes…
Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.
And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.
I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.
For every fake date…he wants a real one.
Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.
That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
The Risk is a high octane secret relationship with the rival hockey team’s captain. This is one sports romance that is passionate and aggressive on and off the ice.
I had to go back and check my review of The Chase, to see how I felt when it was and it appears I am terrible at figuring out who characters are going to be with, because I had Brenna and Hollis pegged and boy was I wrong, but I’m glad because Brenna and Jake are better and we actually meet Hollis’ love interest and I am already in love with her!
A lot of sports romances don’t actually take place on the rink, and it’s probably because it’s extremely difficult to write a play by play, but Elle Kennedy write the hockey games to such perfection that my heart was pounding and I felt like I was there during The Risk.
One thing that I really loved about The Risk was the depth of the story. So many book endings have felt rushed to me and she could have easily ended it at one point and called it a day and it still would have been a good book. But she plowed on and answered questions and kept the story going, it pushed this book from good to a exceptional.
The Risk is going to put you through the emotional wringer and there will probably be tears, and heartbreak, but it’s balanced with love and laughter that will have you wanting the story to never end.
this sounds fun – thanx for sharing
