In the name of keeping up with all things romance, I attempt to stay on top of breaking news through Google alerts. Which I have learned a lot from, did you know that there is a romance author who is accused of killing her husband, and she also wrote a an essay on how to kill your husband?

Last night a new article from Bustle popped up, and they give us a mind bending list of books within books. Some of the books they have listed are pretty insane to think about conceptually.  I have no idea how the authors were able to pull this off, I can’t even quite wrap my brain around it.

A story within a story

I’ve read two romance novels that are stories within stories myself and I LOOVED both of them.  These two women are wickedly talented in their own right, and then I see the level of thought that goes into these stories and I was just blown away.

The first one that I read was To Love Jason Thorn by Ella Maise.  This story is of Olive, the author of the latest book-to-movie adaptation.  Only to have her childhood crush, and hollywood heart throb, Jason Thorn, cast as the hero.  While, Olive and Jason are filming and falling in love, Olive is writing another book. That book is actually published, the Alexander and Maya Duet, by Ella Maise as well.

When I got to the end of the book and I read that, I’m not going to lie, my mind was blown. I crazy impressed by the forethought that had to go into that story!

The other one is The Girl Duet by Julie Johnson, this one also centered around a movie, but it’s a story about Katherine Firestone, who gets the lead role in the movie, Uncharted, based on the best selling book.  I immediately Googled to see if this was a real book. At the time that The Girl Duet was published, the book was not, but Julie Johnson has since written and published Uncharted. She announced just this week that the follow up to Uncharted, Unfinished, will be releasing in January 2019!

Needless to say, I am a huge fan of both these women and admire their artistic writing ability.  If you haven’t read either one of them, I suggest you jump on that today. Trust me on this. I try not to steer you wrong and these stories within stories are compelling, sexy and must read romantic novels.

Have you ever read a story within a story?  I would love to read more.
