I’m so pumped to have A.C. Taylor as a guest of the blog today! Her last release was “Everything To Me” that you can grab on Amazon!
What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t wearing your author hat?
Watching movies or catching up on shows that I’ve missed. I love snuggling up under a blanket and watching anything that I can get my hands on. I could do this all day long and it’s even better when I find something new on Netflix.
What is the most recent book to make you cry?
Honestly, I can’t think of any book that has made me cry. I’m not a very emotional person, so it takes a lot to make me cry.
What would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal? Why?
A cat is always the first thing that comes to my mind. A black cat actually. Cats are very independent animals. They love on you when they want to and then they go on their way, which sums me up quite nicely. Ha!
What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
I can’t say that I find anything too difficult about writing characters from the opposite sex. I just have fun with them and let them tell me what to write.
How do you select the names of your characters?
Names come at me all the time. I could be watching a TV show or listening to something on the radio. If I notice something that I like, I write it down and save it for later. When I start a new project, I go back to that notebook to pick a name. Whatever name gives me a little tingly feeling when I say it out loud is the one that I choose.
Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?
I don’t think I do. If I do, it’s definitely not on purpose.
How long on average does it take you to write a book?
When my life isn’t one big crazy distraction, I can write a book in four weeks.
What does Black History Month Mean to you?
For me, every month is Black History Month and a time to celebrate. I celebrate every single one of our accomplishments all year round.
What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading Anonymous Acts by Christina C. Jones and I’m loving every bit of it. She’s one of my favorite authors.
If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be?
Explore your creativity to the fullest and don’t worry about doing what sounds good to others. None of that matters. The only thing that matters is what makes you happy and gives you that tingly feeling on the inside.
Do you have any tips or hacks that help you stay organized in life, writing or social media?
To stay organized in writing, I have a writing planner that I update every Sunday with the writing plans that I have for that week. I also have a story binder for each project that I work on. Within that binder I have different sheets that deal with my characters, details about their story and the word count goals that I have set for each day. I love picking out different binders and printing out new sheets every time I start something new.
Do you relate more to one of your characters than the others?
One of the characters that I relate to the most is Haze. She was in my latest release, Everything To Me. I relate to her so much because she suffered a huge loss and I was dealing with the exact same thing at the time that I wrote her story. I could feel her pain because it was my own.
