I’m so excited to interview Jacob Chance!
What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t wearing your author hat?
Watch the Patriots, golf, surf, workout, hang out with friends
What is the first book to make you cry?
I can’t remember any book that’s made me cry.
What would you choose as your mascot/avatar?
A dog. They lie around, play some ball and eat well. Sounds pretty good.
What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
Making them authentic. I have an editor and proofreader that help me make sure I do the female characters justice.
How do you select the names of your characters?
I chose names I like or names that I think fit the backstory of the character. I try to choose names that aren’t used much.
Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?
Yes, my books always have them. Some of my close friends can pick them out and some are jokes that I’ve shared in my reader’s group, Spoiled by Chance. Some are things I’ve actually said or done.
How long on average does it take you to write a book?
It depends on the book. When I first started publishing it took me 6 months to write Quake, but now that I know what methods work for me, I can write a full length novel in about 8-10 weeks. When I write the Remy Blake books with my co-author Marley Valentine, we can write one in about 4 weeks.
Have you ever participated in Movember?
No, but I’m always open to support a good cause.
What are you currently reading?
I’m busy working on DRIVE, my next book which releases on December 1st.. Working full time and writing at night doesn’t leave much time for reading.
If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be?
I would have begun publishing a long time ago. I’ve always written since I was a kid. I should have done this sooner.
