After James Cole’s wife walked out on him, he put his dreams aside to raise his daughter. But now she’s grown and he’s ready for more.
When the opportunity arises to own a restaurant, his life-long dream, he can’t deny that it’s meant to be. And for more reasons than one.
He’s kept his heart closed off since the day his wife walked away. He’s never found someone who he thought was worth opening himself up to. But one look at her, and he knew she was everything.
Carly Hanson has a secret. A secret only she and her teenage son, Jack, know about. She’s built a new life but kept herself carefully guarded.
The day Carly stumbled, literally, into James, her world was turned upside down. She tries to keep him strictly as a friend, but he’s relentless in his pursuit. Can he break down the walls she’s so firmly built? Can he get her to join him in… A Better Place?
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Oh, this book, A Better Place, had such great potential and for the majority of the book, it was a 5 star read for me! Right up until the 70% mark and then the story got into a bit of a lull and dragged on a bit for me.
That said, HOLY CRAP did I ever love the way that James treated Carly and her son Jack. I’m a single mom with no father in the picture myself and holy crap did I fall head over freaking heels for James! He was patient and attentive and did everything he could for her while respecting her need to take things slow.
Carly’s relationship with her son is exactly what I want for me and my son and I hope and pray that when Hunter is 16 he will stand his ground and protect me the way Jack did for his mom. And They way that James stepped in without being asked and helped raise Jack his own? I was just over here like a baby crying these happy tears because that family deserved it so much.
The resolution of the conflict in, A Better Place, was just too fast for me. I wanted more, I felt like it needed more time to wrap up than it did. Otherwise, this story was perfection!
