Geocaching with The Knocked Up Plan

As a single mom I’m always looking new fun cheap – read free – ways to enjoy time with my son.  I was inspired by  Lauren Blakely’s latest story, The Knocked Up Plan  In the story, Nicole and Ryder are both relationship experts is working on “how to woo a woman in ten dates.” This is where Geocaching came in, Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. The moment I read this, I just knew this was something Hunter and I would have a blast doing together.

One Sunday afternoon, Hunter, my best friend, Hayden and I loaded up the car with trinkets and set out on what would be an epic day of ‘treasure hunting’.  The first cache we found was actually around our church and was a fairly quick and simple find.  Keep in mind, on the app a lot of people say these are easy finds and we didn’t always agree with their assessments, but the more you go the easier it gets.

Some caches have something in them that you can either replace or leave.  In our first cache, we only had a log and quote that we adored!

“She took a deep breath and let it go.”

After our first cache, we had really high hopes and just thought that every cache would be this simple.  We traveled from place to place, searching high and low, but after visiting around fifteen other sites, in the Texas summer heat, we called it a day. It was a dead end.

We were determined not to give up though.

Each Monday night, we visit the library – Hunter has really enjoyed the summer reading program.  This past week, I looked up caches in the area wanting to try again.  Luckily there is one within walking distance to the library, and it’s shaded and just a pretty part of town.

We found the cache location really easily, but we walked around it FIVE times and we thought for sure it would be another bust.  Finally, I get down on my hands and knees and there under a concrete ledge, with a chunk of old gravel and asphalt is our cache! The best part is, the name of this cache is called, “The Circle of Love” and since The Knocked Up Plan is a romance… you get it.. it’s all about falling in love!

We will definitely be doing more hunting for caches while we are out and about!  I am so glad that Lauren incorporated this to The Knocked Up Plan.  This is some first rate, free family fun or date, or a day out with the girls!  We did this around the suburb we live in, but we definitely want to go to Downtown Dallas and do more exploring.

A few notable locations that I want to visit are are the Grassy Knoll, where Kennedy was assassinated, as well as the grave site of Bonnie Parker (of the infamous Bonnie & Clyde).

Now, I know what you are thinking… this is great Joy, but how can I find a cache near me?

Easy! Follow this link (https://www.geocaching.com/play/mobile) and you can download the app!
